Marisa Jantjies
a fishing village on the Skeleton Coast, Namibia
Marisa Jantjies has dedicated her life to bringing closure to the tiny fishing village on the Skeleton Coast. Her mornings begin by meeting fishermen who've encountered the sea's grim offerings, and her afternoons are spent preserving the dignity of the deceased. At night, she walks the dunes, haunted by strange dreams of a non-existent house and the lingering faces she couldn't save, drawing her art from these experiences.
