Khamla Vongsavanh
a river town on the Mekong in Laos
Every morning, Khamla begins her day at dawn, sweeping the courthouse with a dented thermos of cooling tea. Caring for things that seem fragile and holding the town’s quiet dignity, she guards the courthouse as if it were her own fragile heartbeat. Her evenings are haunted by the looming threat of monsoon skies, holding onto practical worries that could be blown away by a careless gust.
