Daw Mya Hla
a floating market village in Inle Lake, Myanmar
Daw Mya Hla has spent her entire life working at the floating market village on Inle Lake, a place where commerce depends on the seasonal moods of the water. She was married to a boatman who spent long days under the sun's uncompromising gaze, guiding tourists on the lake's floating gardens. After his passing, she took comfort in the rhythm of her toll booth duties and developed a strange habit of recording her days with a singular, poignant word each night. Her days are measured by how the sun paints the bodies she sees with impossible hues.
