Davaa Sukhbaatar
a nomad encampment in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia
Davaa, 52, has spent his entire life on the move as a wildfire lookout, anchoring himself to the changing sands of the Gobi Desert. Each day is a dance with fire: reading the horizon for smoke, feeling the wind whip across his face, and tuning into the subtle whispers of the earth. He lives in a ger at the camp's edge that collects the stories of the people and animals he's sworn to protect, each door left swinging open to welcome in the knowledge he seeks.
