Ayan Sadykov
a Soviet-era apartment block in Almaty, Kazakhstan
Ayan grew up in the shadow of Almaty's telegraph poles, watching his father climb them every day. He's inherited not just his father's trade, but also his heavy brown jacket, which has become a talisman of sorts. His existence is punctuated by the small rituals of his work, the anxious fear of falling, and the metallic taste of hose water on hot summer days, all underpinned by a yearning to provide for his aging parents.
