Aidar Nurzhanov
a Soviet-era apartment block in Almaty, Kazakhstan
Aidar lives in a cramped Soviet-era apartment with the noise of neighbors and the smell of cooking oil always lingering in the air. A roughneck on an oil rig, he dedicates himself to long shifts, driven by the need to support his mother living far away in the village. In his apartment, he labels every plate with his name to keep track of his few possessions, a quirk born of shared space anxieties and limited means.
